Random: Black Friday

As an Australian, I never had a chance to partake in Black Friday until about two years ago when I learned that online retailers began offering Black Friday deals. This'll be a quick post, and as far as I know, these deals are still up. Here's what I got, if you're curious.  1. Unique Vintage With their 'Catch of the Day', I thought I'd give it a go and purchased the bottoms for USD$10 and their pagoda umbrella at 25% off (with BEST25). It's a bit of a lucky dip but I'm hoping it's just some plain pants. I can do a flared skirt too.  2. Paula's Choice Paula's Choice Australia is offering 20% off with free shipping. I had some credit on my account, so I ended up getting the 2% BHA Body Treatment without any charges. If you're interested in purchasing from Paula's Choice (and you're in Australia), feel free to use my link ( https://goo.gl/HDeHpw ) for $15 off your first order if you spend over $30. Note: this is ...

Random: Travels

I thought I'd do a bit of an update about what I had been up to. In the first weekend of September, I made a trip to Melbourne for a weekend with my sister and my friend. Whilst my sister attended the Madman Fest, I went around the CBD with my friend and explored the laneways, arcades and the Queen Victoria market. It takes more than a weekend to fully explore what Melbourne has to offer but I was quite content with what I was able to do during that weekend. This was more of a luxury trip, in which we indulged on food and stayed at a hotel. My friend and I stopped by Hardware Societe for breakfast, which came highly recommended by one of my nursing school friends, and we had the fairy floss hot chocolate at the Hash Specialty. I window-shopped most of the time and caved into a purchase of a box of macarons from La Belle Miette to bring back home. My family dug into them before I had the chance to take photos. Late October to mid-November, I had a placement in Tweed Hea...

Random: Happy New Year!

We're almost two weeks into this new year so I thought I'd do a quick post on my resolutions. First of all, I'm not dead. 2015 was a haze for me and my passion for style took a backseat. I feel incredibly shallow making weekly posts about material things and I burned out. This blog is supposed to be fun for me and to allow me to develop my 'voice' in writing. I do not derive any income from keeping this blog up, so nothing but my passion for writing about style kept me moving.  In any case, my 2016 resolutions all surround one theme: Balance . In terms of my blog, I hope to find a balance in my posts and try to strive for consistent quality, as opposed to frequent posts. I am aware that frequent posts are necessary for a successful blog but I am also aware that there's a limit to what I can say before it sounds like I'm repeating myself, or repeating what others have to say.  As for the other aspects of my life, I'll be starting postgradua...

Random: Mid-Sem Break

I never feel adequately rejuvenated from a mid-semester break. This year, I've only ever felt profound fatigue -- far from the bright-eyed-bushy-tailed first year I used to be. Caffeine intake might have something to do with it too but I think I'm just feel uninspired with the things I'm doing. I tried to make the best of my break but I honestly didn't get much done. I feel like I'm fizzling out but it's almost the end -- I've gone through nearly 3/4 of the semester. Other than going to see a friend, lending her my manga, giving her some posters for her new room and some Buldak Bokkeum Myun  (seriously hot Korean instant noodles), I didn't meet up with any of my other friends. I did, however, had a nice dinner out in the city with my younger sister after a long day of studying (for her) and a day at the lab (for me). I treated her to one of N2's ice cream flavours: Ferrero Reveal  (Ferrero Rocher). I think the syringe of chocolate ganache is a nice...

Random: Spring

Sydney's now in spring. The other day, I took a stroll around the neighbourhood with my sister and found some trees still blossoming.  Pink blossoms! White blossoms! Honestly, I'm not spring-ready, even though a whole month has almost passed. Spring and summer are my least favourite seasons, even if they have the most holidays (Christmas and New Year's) and also my birthday's in Spring. The pastels, the bright colours, the hay fever and the stinking hot weather - I've never really enjoyed it. I just hope that these flowers can help inspire me. I'm feeling up for a bohemian vibe.

Random: Mid-year Break

Sometimes, you just need a break from things. I'm back for the second semester now but this was how I spent my break: I visited a friend at her place and she curled my hair. I also got to try one of her corsets. It was quite flattering but I don't have a picture because it was ridiculous to wear a corset over a jumper/sweater. She introduced me to the Lego Movie (we never finished it). The curls have loosened up by that time. I happened to pick up a Maybelline BB cream... and that was my half-finished painting behind it. It's finished now. I haven't painted in a while and wanted to get in touch with my artistic side (sarcasm)... I just felt like painting. This is not an original work. I was never good at painting so I followed a tutorial  here.  Nevermind that, I never honed my skills so my artistic skill is the same as my 12-year-old self. However, I did sketch this (for fun) while I was supposed to be studying for my finals. I started drawing a person ...

Random: Photos and Tidbits

Over the years I have blogged, there are photos I've taken that don't fit anywhere, don't make the cut or just didn't end up being used. I've also found photos I've had taken in my previous blogs but I didn't preserve my posts, so I can't say much in terms of context. Before White + Rose I've always had a fascination with photography. I don't think I take great photos but I still learn. One of the blogs, I had called Poisoned Apples and Sweet Tea - already allusions to fairytales, Disney... etc. It also happened to be an acronym for PAST (ignore the ampersand).   I love strawberries. Paint, paintbrushes and a sketch for some linocut in 7th grade, except those tubes of paint I had in 8th grade. My fondness for jewellery-making. I happened to find a coin that had been drilled into, so I used it for a necklace. Glass chess set. I loved chess, even though I was a beginner. White + Rose There were just some photos that di...

Scraps: My Style

Hello there! Though it has nothing to do with fashion, what I'm going to say is: I've finally finished my exams! That was actually a week ago but I've just been grieving for the fact that I ended my exam period with a fizzle rather than a spark. Anyway, back to fashion, I've realised that I've never really showed my style on my blog but that is because I did not wish to put anything too personal in this blog. I just had the idea to break down my style in this blog post, so that is exactly what I'm going to do. If I had to describe my style, I would not really be able to put into words. I wouldn't describe it as chic, or classic, sophisticated. I'm not trendy nor am I casual or relaxed. Though I'm quite fond of vintage clothes, I would not describe it like that either. It's simply a reflection of who I am, what I like and what I feel like on that day but I used to have some goth and punk influences in my style. 1. Plaid I'm very fon...

Scraps/Trend: Spring/Summer

Hello there! So it's been a while since I've typed anything up on my blog. I'm actually supposed to be studying at this moment but I couldn't help but I had to force myself just to write this post. I thought I'd do a little thing on the spring / summer trends I think might come to Oz (Australia... if people aren't familiar with that term).  Most of the trends we get in Australia were trends from Spring/Summer in the northern hemisphere. I just have a gut feeling that I'd be seeing lots of c o l o u r in stores this spring and summer (hopefully, I'd get to flee from the sticky Aussie heat and spend my days in icy weather in the north, this year.) From the runways, lots of orange popped up and something called " colour-blocking ". So I thought I'd draw both into one little outfit. There's a reason why I don't like drawing faces and I'm sure you can see why from this scan:  Ignoring this hasty and pretty ugly drawing, th...
