Vintage seems to be the trend for bags lately, and brands have been shilling out revivals such as the Dior Saddle. Here's my take on some of the the bag trends.
Mock Croc
Faux crocodile or mock croc is essentially crocodile embossed leather.
With the animal trends showing up in clothing and shoes, it's no surprise it'd turn up in bags. One of my friends recommended that I look to YSL for my first luxury bag, especially for their croc-embossed leather because it's fairly low maintenance, and scuffs and scratches end up looking like part of the pattern. Initially, I was the sceptic because I didn't think crocodile was "classic". Nevertheless, I like the vintage flair.
To trial this trend, I've looked at proper vintage bags. Very keen on the look of the real vintage stuff with exotic leathers. There's the thrill of the find if you're willing to invest time rummaging through charity/op-shops but I opted for the easy way out and found one on Etsy from a Melbournian seller. It's a 40s style bag, and likely genuine leather from the photos provided in the listing.

Jane Birkin with basket bag |
The other trend I'm very fond of is the wicker/rattan trend, which had been hanging around from the last two years. You can opt for a basket like Jane Birkin. You can find vintage top handle wicker bags, or you can go modern and opt for crossbody. It's very "French rivera", so you'll look like you're on a holiday, or just heading out for a picnic.
It's easy to find a wicker/rattan bag on the online market. I also don't like how the little round bags don't open up fully with minimal storage. I'd recommend the Ulla Johnson Perle if you like crossbody or perhaps the APC Jeanne if you like the Birkin look.
Beaded bags
Shrimps is making beaded bags fashion again. Very 60s mod and very cute. Alternatively, you can opt for wooden beads like what Cult Gaia and Ulla Johnson have to offer, if you're after an earthier boho look. When it comes to versatility, the white/ivory pearl seems the way to go. The idea of the beaded bag is growing on me but I'm not convinced that I'd use it enough.
