Celeb Style: Olivia Palermo

For a long time, I've admired Olivia Palermo's style. Even in the most bland outfits, she looks put together and it's probably because of her hair. It's how she mixes modern and classic together that seems so effortless that I fall head over heels for. Here are a couple of things I've noticed from her photos that I think I would keep in mind: Lipstick Opt for classic hues of lipstick. A pink/peach beige for something more casual. A red for more dressier occasions. Pink for spring.  Drab to Fab  To make a drab outfit fabulous, just put on one or two statement accessories. Classic pieces never go out of style  Be it a little black dress, a white shirt or some black pants, the classics will never go out of style. Definitely pair it up with some trendy items to keep it modern. Fur also never out of style  For ethical reasons, people opt for faux but it'll never go out of style and keep you warm in very cold weather. Mixing different patte...

Celeb Style: Lana Del Rey

If Iggy Azalea is the Queen of Summer 2014, Lana Del Rey was the Queen before her. She's known for her 50s/60s Americana influence in her songs crossed between a bit of hip-hop and I guess you could say "sadcore". She's described as "gangsta Nancy Sinatra" and "Lolita lost in the hood", which I think are perfect descriptions of her image as an artist. When I first heard of her songs, I kept thinking of Nancy Sinatra's sombre 'Bang Bang'. Now this one's been in my draft folder for a long time because Lana Del Rey's style is hard to define. She's got a whole image on stage but when she's off-stage, she's quite laid-back. I did the best I could to find certain aspects I think are worthy of mentioning. 1. Vintage influence Del Rey's entire image as a musician is based on vintage appeal but with a modern twist. Naturally her clothes will be influenced by the 60s and 70s. On one end of the spectrum, she's gl...

Celeb Style: Iggy Azalea

Iggy Azalea, dubbed "Queen of this Summer" by Buzzfeed , is probably best known for her Fancy  video. I thought it was perfectly executed - the throwback to Clueless  (1995). Most of the cast in the video looked like their movie counterparts, though it triggered an unwanted reminder for my younger sister of her comparative study on Jane Austen's Emma  and  Clueless . When I showed her the video, she immediately yelled out "EMMA!" until she realised her mistake. She didn't care for the song though. The song itself is quite catchy. I was not aware that she was Australian until I watched an interview and noticed her accent (yes, people have argued it isn't 'Australian' enough but it's noticeably Australian to me, even with its quirks). I loved her style though. She has a great body and isn't afraid of treading on the fine-lines of body-hugging since it can emphasise her small waist. However, there's a few blunders can occur for a ...

Celeb Style: Clemence Poesy

Just before I start, I want to apologise for the infrequent posts lately since it is already the second half of the semester for me and I've got a mountain of work to do and prepare for my finals soon. Most of the English speaking world encountered Clemence Poesy through her role as Fleur Delacour in the Harry Potter movies (that's how I first heard of her) and if not, probably from Gossip Girl as Eva. In terms of fashion, she has a very relaxed and easygoing style much like all those Parisian women we idolise (generally speaking here). It's mostly classic pieces and I love how she can be feminine even when wearing androgynous clothing. Here are some outfits that are more feminine: ... And more androgynous outfits: If you love the feminine aspect of her style, I suggest: A dressy blouse: sheer, ruffly, pleated and polka-dot - it's your choice but keep it classy. Short skirt A drop-waist dress Boxy jackets Black tights (for the win...
