Project: Gatsby Girl Turban

Debbie Bliss released this pattern a while ago and I thought I'd pick it up. It can be found  here.  Although it is called a turban, it's definitely not one - it's a bandeau. It's a fairly simple pattern to knit and you can easily decorate it with a brooch or a decorative button. Bandeaus aren't my kind of accessory but I thought this was a beautiful pattern - simple and easy. Yarn and needles  Fibra Natura Inca in Ecru (43034) - 100% wool This pattern is suitable for a beginner. The knitting is very basic, consisting only of the moss stitch and stockinette. It's a nice alternative for beginners - if you don't want to knit a scarf, you could have a go at this. Knitting in progress - moss stitch My yarn isn't the correct weight for this project but I thought I'd increase the size of the needles and weight of the yarn and reduce the number of stitches. So instead of the 4.5mm needles suggested in this pattern, I used a 6mm needle (la...

Review: Studded Headband

So a little while ago, I had posted up on Dream High 2 and expressed my love for the studded headband. Well, I purchased one from Vintage Hollywood, a brand that a lot of Korean celebrities are spotted wearing. There aren't many blog posts/ reviews of any purchases from Vintage Hollywood out there (at least in English) and I thought it would be helpful if I had written up one myself, in case if any of you out there have stumbled upon this site or a lured in by what Korean celebrities wear.  It was only recently that Vintage Hollywood had opened up to the international market so that may be why there aren't many reviews out there. Navigation/Communication:  Firstly, when you access the website, you'd be a little intimidated if you cannot understand Korean but there is a link to help those to navigate the website under "Are you a foreigner? Check it out!" This can be accessed from a marquee on the top of the page or by clicking "CHECK BEFORE YOU BUY!" ...

Formal: Final Post

Hello there, I realised that I have not posted anything regarding my year 12 formal from last year and I've just left it without an end. I actually did write a post but was unable to finish it before leaving for the US. I'm back in Sydney and with summer hopefully coming to an end, I'm also starting my first year of university, doing a degree equivalent to the pre-med programs they have in the US (we don't have anything called "pre-med" here).  I didn't end up making a dress for the formal and my purchase was a last minute one. I ended up purchasing a lacy tea dress. My bad time management is to blame and my lack of motivation... I shouldn't make empty promises. Fortunately, I had some time to make my headband because I wasn't going to go unless I had something I had personally made on me. It's a ruched headband made of golden silk habotai and it was possibly the most difficult project I had ever done without a proper pattern. That mea...

Picture Overload: Outfit with Bow Headband

Hello there, It's certainly been a while since I've posted anything. I've just finished all my exams so now I could actually spend some free time updating this blog. To be honest, I lost a bit of my passion for writing about fashion and I couldn't think about what to write. So I thought I'd just do a post on something I'd wear with the bow headband (which I made a tutorial on). I can't get away with wearing it in my normal outfits because while my style is a little girly, it can't really get away with this cutesy OTT headband. The headband really isn't as wearable as I had thought it would be... which frustrates me to no end because it just sits there in my drawer.  So basically, I pulled out the girliest thing I had, which was a Sass and Bide Vie Dress. The material is sheer so it's actually more of a beach dress but it sort of channels Snow White and Minnie Mouse with the headband in the summer. It's very difficult trying to take a...

Tutorial: Red Bow Headband

Hello there!  As it's the school holidays in Australia, I've had quite a lot of spare time. There was one particular project I had always wanted to make and that was a headband. Specifically, it was the red bow headband on Gossip Girl's Blair Waldorf from "Victor, Victrola" in the first season. It's one of my favourite headbands worn on the show. (The other one being the 'Queen Bee' headband given to Jenny: the Swarovski crystal headband by Jennifer Behr, which she hardly wore.)  This is actually the first tutorial I have ever written and I really do hope I don't spare any important details. In that case, I had taken heaps of pictures of the process and yet I haven't used all of them. The measurements I give out are only approximate and you may alter it for a bigger bow or a smaller bow. You may also alter it to make your own design, if you wish. Level of Difficulty: Beginner/Intermediate Skills: Hand-sewing and machine sewing Wha...
